Yoga for 12 Step Recovery - 90 minute class - This class is open to all A's (Anyone in a 12 Step Recovery Program) Begins w/ a 45 minute 12 Step Meeting followed by a 45 minute Recovery-themed Yoga class. This is a donation based class - There is no fee for this class, please consider making a donation to help support the expenses of time & space. **A portion of your donation will also go directly to support Recovery in our local community. See below for full class description

Class Formats
 
HATHA YOGA - all levels
This is a Kripalu based class which teaches classic yoga postures with deep awareness of correct alignment. Each class will begin with centering on breath (pranayama) allowing you to turn inward and focus on the experience of the body and breath (meditation). Gentle warm-up stretches follow and move into a variety of yoga postures (asanas). The postures will challenge the body & mind through stretching, relaxing and breathing while holding the postures. Poses may be held for an extended period of time adding to the challenge for both body and mind. Postures and holding times will be tailored according to fitness level of the class.This practice helps train the  mind to be focused, alert and composed. Class ends with a lying out relaxation incorporating affirmations or guided relaxation. You will leave class feeling balanced, relaxed and energized. 

GENTLE & RESTORATIVE YOGA - all levels including beginners and those with limitations
This is a gentle practice benefits the bodies overall health and well-being. Class combines self-care techniques, gentle & supported poses, conscious breathing and meditation. It is appropriate for all students seeking the healing benefits of a very relaxing, gentle and restorative practice. Deep restorative work stretches and opens the body, improves posture, range of motion, and joint mobility. Reduces pain, muscle tension, and the effects of stress. Stimulates the immune system and helps balance the nervous system. Brings relief from fatigue and insomnia and prepares us for a full, restful night's sleep. Students with injuries, arthritis or other chronic conditions, limitations related to age or size as well as students with a more vigorous yoga practice will benefit from this practice. Blankets, bolsters, straps, and blocks will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own. A chair can be provided for those who are uncomfortable on the floor (laying poses will be skipped with focus on breath to modify). Balances & grounds us in life.
   With Yoga Nidra—known as yogic sleep—is a meditation and conscious relaxation practice that is     intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. I’ve heard an hour of yoga nidra can be as restorative as four hours of regular sleep

WALING & YOGA at Beaver Lake Nature Center - all levels
(Spring sessions- Apr, May, Jun  Fall sessions- Sept, Oct, NovLevel - All levels welcome - includes admission to Beaver Lake. Must pre-register by calling Beaver Lake at 638-2519. Come enjoy and connect with the wonders and beauty of nature. A complete body/mind/spirit experience. Consists of 30 minutes of walking and 60 minutes of complimentary yoga. Increases cardio fitness, helps with weight control, enhances core strength, and improves flexibility while relieving stress. It's a great class for complete fitness! Please bring sneakers, water & mat. Dress for the weather conditions in layers. Will walk rain or shine.

(Winter sessions- Jan, Feb, Mar ) Level - All levels welcome - includes admission to Beaver Lake. Must pre-register by calling Beaver Lake at 638-2819. Come enjoy and connect with the wonders and beauty of nature in this tranquil setting. A complete body/mind/spirit experience. Class is appropriate for most ages, body types, and experience levels.  Each class will begin with centering on breath (pranayama) allowing you to turn inward and focus on the experience of the body and breath. Gentle warm-up stretches follow and move into a variety of hatha yoga postures. The postures will challenge the body & mind through stretching, relaxing and breathing while holding the postures. Postures and holding times will be tailored according to fitness level of the class. Class ends with a short lying out relaxation incorporating affirmations or guided relaxation. You will leave class feeling balanced, relaxed and energized.   

YOGA SCULPT or YOGA with WEIGHTS - intermediate level
YogaSculpt is a 60 minutes class.  Yoga with Weights is a 30 minute class. Both classes will focus is on building functional muscle strength, range of motion and flexibility. Will incorporate light dumb bells, with squats, lunges, pushups, and core conditioning. A variety of posture flows linked with breath (sun salutation vinyasa & moon salutation vinyasa) will challenge body and mind. Heightens body awareness, strength, and endurance.  Requires transitioning from pose to pose at a faster pace. 

YOGA FOR 12 STEP RECOVERY (Y12SR) - open to those seeking relief from addiction 
Whether you are working to overcome addiction or are impacted by the addictive behavior of others, Y12SR Meetings are for you. Weekly Y12SR meetings are open, inclusive groups that offer a model for sustainable relapse prevention. Modeled on the structure of 12-step meetings, Y12SR meetings include a group sharing circle followed by an intentional, themed yoga class hosted by a certified leader. They are open to all individuals who are working to overcome all manifestations of addiction – from behavioral addictions, to substance abuse – as well as those impacted by the addictive behavior of others. Meetings are donation-based, with all funds shared between the teacher, the host facility and a local nonprofit that supports addiction recovery. *This group is NOT meant to replace your 12 Step Recovery Meetings. Y12SR is offered as an ADJUNCT to help in RELAPSE PREVENTION. This class does not act as a detox or rehabilitation from active addiction. Must be 48 hours abstinent from drugs and alcohol to attend.

MEDITATION PRACTICE- all levels - 15 minutes
No fee for this 15 minute practice, open to all level. Will introduce a summary of a different type of meditation each week. Meditation is a simple act of being mindful and has been scientifically proven to cause neuroplastic changes in the brain, increasing the gray matter of the brain. When you meditate, you clear away the information overload and mental chatter that builds up every day and contributes to your stress. The emotional benefits of meditation can include:
        - Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations
        - Building skills to manage your stress
        - Increasing self-awareness
        - Focusing on the present
        - Reducing negative emotions
